Protecting Elder and Dependent Adults
San Benito County Adult Protective Services (APS) helps elder adults (60 years and older) and dependent adults (18-59 who are disabled), when these adults are unable to meet their own needs, or are victims of abuse, neglect or exploitation. The Agency investigates reports of abuse of elders and dependent adults who live in private homes, apartments, hotels or hospitals. APS staff also provides information and referrals to other agencies and educates the public about reporting requirements and responsibilities under the Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse Reporting laws.
Reporting Abuse
Anyone may make a report to APS if they think or know older or dependent adult abuse or neglect is happening. APS receives and responds to reports of abuse or neglect of older adults (age 60 or older) and dependent adults (ages 18 to 59 with physical or mental limitations).
